Transform Sandwell chooses Ultrascape for BS 7533 confidence

Transform Sandwell, the strategic partnership between BT and Sandwell Council chose the Ultrascape mortar paving system for their West Bromwich regeneration scheme.

Formerley known as All Saints, Providence Place is a 245,000 sq ft office development in the town centre of West Bromwich. A new BT building has been built on the site and all surrounding paving was completed using Ultrascape Pro-Bed HS, Pro-Prime, and Flowpoint

These products make up Ultrascape's mortar paving system that meets and exceeds the strict demands of BS 7533. This standard offers the reassurance of being independently tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory which verifies the products' capabilities.

The project covered 3800m2 of footpath and road paving, totaling a £55 million investment for Sandwell Council. Two distinctive factors helped to win the contract, bulk silo delivery of Pro-Bed HS and our exceptional flowable grout, Flowpoint. Both aided the ease of completion and a quick application.

What's more, Flowpoint's rapid setting capabilities allowed for a quick opening to traffic. Paving grouted with Flowpoint can be opened to pedestrians in just 1 hour and vehicular traffic after only 4 hours.

Ultrascape Pro-Prime was also instrumental in the success of this project. Traditionally paving elements would be laid directly onto bedding mortar, but due to ever-increasing traffic loading, street cleaning and general wear and tear, the paving would often break away from the mortar bed resulting in a costly failure. The addition of a priming layer, as used on this project, between the paving element and the Pro-Bed HS yields an extremely high bond strength, preventing this type of failure.

Providence Place is set to become the premier office destination in West Bromwich with other building phases planned over the coming months. The BT building itself, has bought 450 jobs to the Black County borough and houses the 'Transform Sandwell' employees who provide services for Sandwell Council.
